Last call for Love

There's still room for players in the round robin „Spread the love“.
Spread the love
2012 will be a very special year. The old ways of learning through fear and disconnection will vanish now and the new ways of learning through love and connection will come in more and more.
Love is the key word to everything in our future. It heals, it embraces the dark, it nourishes the soul, it inspires and re-arranges, it gives you hope, it restores things, it makes you feel at home.

This little booklet is an artful project to spread love and make a sign for the new year 2012.
Inside you can sign in and write the word love in your finest hand and in an artful way. You can also write down some wishes, doodle, introduce yourself, leave traces, tell us something, whatever.

Love
Then you take from others as much love as you want. Keep one for you and give the others to friends, family and even strangers. Put it behind a car’s wiper, drop it into a postbox, hand it over, leave it at a café, ad it to a letter, do what ever you like.

You can sign up now, the beginning is on January, 1st 2012.
There is only room for 15 “lovers”, if there will be more players, I will choose by random who will be in.
Please sign in with an e-mail to lawendula@googlemail.com and please ad your mailing address.

Thanks for being a part of this!

A happy winter solstice to everyone

Yule

Always a lovely day of the year: the coming back of the light! The wheel is turning and the dark is changing.
I live high in the north of our country, only the Baltic sea is seperating me from Sweden. So days are very short by now. Sunset at around 4 p.m. and to know it will grow a bit more (de)lightful every day from tomorrow on is just gorgeous!
Sie kommt!
I have spun a yule yarn, sitting in the winter sun. This was perfect!
It has the colours of dark violet (the darkness), red and green (traditional Xmas colours of the reborn life), yellow and white (the sun and the light) and silver (the moon). The fibers come from three different animals: Sheep, Goat (Mohair) and butterfly (silk) and from a plant: flax (linen).
Winter solstice wool

This is my Yule log.
The Yule log
The log will burn tonight and I will keep a piece of it and also the ashes, symbols of a good fertile year to come.

A merry Yule to all my blogreaders, may you enjoy the light! xox

I love slow food and slow food loves me

I am reading a book right now about Hildegard von Bingen and she said that spelt makes the soul happy and body healthy. I think she is right! I changed all kind of wheat food to spelt food and my health (always a problem) is improving now.

Since the last years slow food became more and more important for me. Cooking good meals and having organic things to eat is everyday's luxury and the least I can do for me to treat me well.

Here are some insights in food and kitchen stuff, my favorite salads and meals.

I got carried away...
Heaven on my table! A visit at my local health food store (called "Heaven and earth") and all you can dream of.

Morning Müsli

There are only a few meals I ever eat without sunflower seeds. Tip: Toast them with a bit of sea salt.
My morning Müsli is quite simple: I am toasting 6 different grain flakes with a bit of raw sugar and sel gris (sea salt from France), mix it with sunflower seeds and some yoghurt.

There really is nothing as good as a fresh salad. I eat one most every day.

Slow food Salat
This is one of my favorite: Cook Spirelli pasta as usual, let them get cold, add arugula and dried tomatoes, an onion, fresh herbs, maybe garlic, salt, pepper, mustard and a good oil.

Always use a good pan when you are cooking, don't go for this teflon crap, it's not good for your health!
Essen heute

Change your normal cheese to goat cheese, it's much better and it tastes wonderful!

Make your own bread speads! It's easier than you think.

Brotaufstrich
My favorite spread.
Melt 1/2 package of butter in a pot. It must not be too liquid, only creamy.
Chop a spring onion and grind a carrot and stir it with the butter.
Add tomato purée til it makes a nice mix (it will get hard in the fridge). Also add salt, pepper, garlic powder and herbs.
You can also use other grinded vegetables. Just be creative!
Store it in the fridge for 2-3 hours or better overnight for full flavour and good consistency.

Let your food and cooking be happiness and joy!

Alright, I bet you are all hungry by now, well, visit your local whole food store and be seduced by the offers....Yum!

Sun rises

I live far away from big cities (2 hours travel to Berlin, 2 hours to Hamburg) in a very small village on land. I live at the end of a street, that leads to nowhere, only to our little house.
My life is full of stillness and the rush of the cities is so far away, that I just forget sometimes what it is like to live there.

I like the colours we have here in our winter skies and I keep taking photos of it. I want to share some with you.

The sign

Weleda 2012

This is a calendar of 2012 by the German "Weleda" company, who makes natural cosmetics with an anthroposophic background.
When I posted it, it soon got many fans, on Flickr as well as on Tumblr.

The funny thing is, when you look at it, you see the sign of a cross in a circle, which is an old symbol meaning either the wheel of the sun or the 4 elements.
Soon after I got this calendar and have put it on my wall, a certain little book kept nagging and whining, that I should read it again: "The dark is rising" by Susan Cooper.
It's the second book of a series of 5:

Over Sea, Under Stone (1965)
The Dark is Rising (1973)
Greenwitch (1974)
The Grey King (1975)
Silver on the Tree (1977)

It's about winter solstice and a boy who turned eleven on that day. He has a special task, to keep "the dark(ness)" from getting power again. And therefore he needs to collect 6 signs and they all look like the one on the calendar: a cross in a circle.
Winter time
It's a very good book, maybe a famous children's book in USA and Canada? In Germany it's quite unknown, but worth reading it. It's so full of myths and magic, of folktales around winter and Yule and it's got two very lovely figures in it: The White Goddess and the Merlin, though in disguise, you will recognize them at once. It's packed with suspense and best of all: it's in England!
A great book for winter solstice.

Three postcards

I am still stuck. No flow...

But as an "artist date" for our German book blogging group about Cameron's "The artist's way" I did this. Three postcards.
